RTSP – Real Time Server Protocol

Bandwidth – 8 bits = 1 byte

Dial up – 56 Kilobits Kbs/sec
ISDN – 64/128 Kbs/sec
DSL – Digital Subscriber Line
ADSL – Asymmetric DSL = 256 upload, 2 MB download

NOTE: Tel Line part of bandwidth = 3 to 4 Kbs/sec

Satellite – 2 MBs/sec

Truro is SDSL enabled.

WIMAX – 30 mile radius, offers 54 Mb/sec – requires Ofcom licence as effectively a broadcaster

Server – 10 Gigabit - backbone lines

Video Options:

Download Standard Server – 5 to 10 viewers at a time
Progressive download Standard Server

Streaming Streaming Server – Can detect bandwidth of user, costly, possible problems with firewall.
Live Broadcast Streaming Server

NOTE: 1 minute video = 300MBs

MPEG4 64Kb/sec to 4 Mb/sec – web compressor

NEW:

H264 codec
MPEG2 – Broadcast quality at 30% of MPEG2 file.
Quicktime has H264 codec in it.

http://www. etc., standard intro to address – server checks that webpage is being viewed with same info as server webpage – this slows system down

rtsp:// indicates streaming – doesn’t bother to do checking.

Streaming video servers can output to all formats, eg dial up to Broadband.
